The NBA Trade Deadline: A Crazy and Unpredictable Day

The Tobias Harris to the Philadelphia 76ers Trade should be enough proof of the NBA Trade Deadline’s unpredictability. After focusing on the Anthony Davis to LA rumors and the Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas trade, no one would’ve seen this big trade coming. Aside from free agency and the NBA Playoffs, this has to be one of the craziest times of the NBA season.

Some trade deadlines have huge blockbuster deals, and some have mediocre trades that just go under-the-radar. With the trade rumors we’ve been hearing so far, this particular one has the potential to be a fun one. Let’s get right into it!

Marc Gasol and Mike Conley

I thought I’d package this Grizzlies duo together, even if there is a big chance they could end up being on completely different teams. Reports have come out that the Grizzlies are shopping both of their franchise stars as the Grizzlies now sit at 14th in the Western Conference.

Teams linked to Mike Conley: Pistons, Pacers, Jazz, Raptors

Mike Conley has been linked to the Detroit Pistons, in a trade that would revolve around a Conley-for-Jackson swap. On the other hand, a deal centered on Rubio and a first round pick has also been gaining traction, sending Conley to the Utah Jazz.

Recent reports say that Conley is not interested in being traded to the Jazz, and would much rather be traded to an Eastern Conference team. Aside from the Pistons, it has been reported that the Indiana Pacers are interested in acquiring the veteran point guard.

Teams linked to Marc Gasol: Hornets, Raptors

A Marc Gasol to the Charlotte Hornets deal has also been gaining traction, as the two teams are trying to find ways in order to match the salary of Gasol. This would be Jordan’s way of trying to secure a playoff spot for his Hornets, as he hopes to pair up Gasol with their all-star in Kemba Walker. As of right now, the trade seems to have fallen apart.

The Toronto Raptors offered both Kyle Lowry and Jonas Valanciunas for Gasol and Conley in a deal that was declined by the Grizzlies. It is unknown what has happened to the deal so far.

Enes Kanter

Teams linked to Enes Kanter: N/A

The Turkish big man has not received a lot of playing time lately under Knicks head coach David Fizdale. The Knicks are clearly looking to tank, especially with the shocking Porzingis for DSJ deal that took the league by storm. With Kanter itching for playing time, he still has pretty good value for any fringe playoff contender that needs a quality center. As of right now, reports have surfaced about how the Knicks are currently unable to find a suitable trade partner. This only strengthens the possibility of Kanter getting bought out and becoming a free agent, instead of getting traded.

Kyle Lowry

Despite the Raptors’ successes as the 2nd seed in the East, and despite Lowry sitting at 2nd in assists per game, AND despite Lowry being an all-star for the fifth straight season, he just might get traded.

Teams linked to Kyle Lowry: Grizzlies

GM Masai Ujiri and the Raptors have shown this past offseason that they are willing to trade anyone on the roster by trading fan-favorite DeMar DeRozan for Kawhi Leonard. Rumors have surfaced on the Raptors offering Lowry and Jonas Valanciunas in exchange for the Memphis Grizzlies’ Mike Conley and Marc Gasol, to which the Grizzlies declined. It is unknown if the Raptors are currently in negotiations with other teams on Lowry’s availability.
