Today we know Zion Williamson as the player every team in the NBA wants to tank for, but what has led Zion to the place he is at today as the virtual number one overall lock? Zion Williamson was born on July 6th, 2000 in Salisbury, North Carolina, fast forward 16 years and Zion Williamson is a household name for his crazy in game dunks that every person with a smartphone is raving over.
Still, in high school many people questioned Zion’s level of competition and if he could ever develop a jump shot, despite the fact that he led his team, Spartanburg Day School to three straight state championships and was a consensus 5 star recruit. So, in an effort to prove his doubters wrong, Zion joined fellow top 5 star recruits R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish declaring he would play his college basketball at Duke University on live television on January 20th, 2018.
After that day, everyone knew that come the 2018 college basketball season, all eyes would be on Duke basketball and Zion Williamson, and when that day came, Zion was ready. In Zion’s first regular season game for Duke he scored 28 points on 11-13 shooting in just 23 minutes of play, and it did not stop there for Zion, as he has gone on to average 22 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists on 68% shooting. At this point, there are very few people left who doubt that Zion will be the number one overall pick, or even that he will go on to be an NBA superstar, the only question that is truly left is, how good can Zion Williamson truly be?
Let us know what you think of Zion below in the comments! Is he going to be an NBA MVP? Or is he just another player?
