Lamelo Ball and Spire Academy won their game tonight against Vermillion High School by a score of 102-75 behind 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 12 assists from Lamelo and 26 points (15 in the 1st quarter) chipped in by Rocket Watts as well, in what was a strong showing for Spire against a team they were clearly superior to.
Lamelo was the biggest contributor to Spires performance tonight as he pushed pace and drained three pointer one after the other to lead this Spire team to its blowout victory. Surprisingly the game started out very evenly with Vermillion playing far above their heads in the first half, trailing by only 7 at the halfway mark.
But as the game went on the superior athleticism and skill for Spire was just to much for Vermillion to keep up with, Spire were able to get out in transition scoring many dunks off of lobs and were very strong in their press defense, similarly to how JBA USA defended all season long.
For Spire this game is nothing new as they are one of the best high school teams in the country, and will need to be going up against the very best even to be challenged. Thus far in his time back in high school Lamelo Ball has proved how much better he truly is to players at the high school level and should expect to finish the season averaging a triple double.
Scouts now have to recognize his abilities, which are above the level of every player his age right now, maybe ever, of course Lamelo will have to continue to dominate to show the scouts he is worthy of being drafted, but that shouldn’t be a problem for a player of his level.
This was an exciting game from start to finish as Spire plays a very exciting brand of basketball, and surely they will continue to do so for the rest of this season.
