JBA USA bounced back from their first loss in over a month in an exciting fashion beating Bulgarian side Academic Sofia by a score of 138-133 where Liangelo Ball went on a tear for 65 points and a great game from Curtis Hollis as well who finished with 32 points 10 rebounds and 4 assists. It was a game in which Academic Sofia showed off some impressive dunks and kept pace with JBA USA for a large portion of the game.
JBA USA got to a slow start, they were not getting back on defense enough and were allowing Academic Sofia to use some pretty passing to get around their infamous press defense. The score at halftime was 76-70 Academic Sofia after a small comeback by the USA squad led by Liangelo Ball who had 28 points at halftime.
Early in the third quarter there was an injury scare for the USA team and Jordan Ray who seemed to tweak his ankle pretty badly, limping off of the court. Lucky for him and the JBA team Ray returned to the court later in the third quarter and played the rest of the game looking like himself.
After taking this game JBA USA must take their experience here to Romania where they play their final game before the Asian leg of the tour. They must learn to attack on defense and hustle on both ends of the court.
Give Liangelo The Scoring Burden
clearly Liangelo Ball had an amazing game today and the USA team should allow him to continue this in the next game by feeding him like Jordan Ray did today with some full court passes and three point opportunities. Liangelo finally had that game where he impressed to the level we have been used to seeing in the past, he should be given a chance to continue that.
Follow Harrison Reiger and Melvin Davis lead
On the defensive end of the court today there as still a lot to be desired by the JBA USA team, but if you look at Harrison Reiger and Melvin Davis they have shown the hustle and effort necessary for that to improve. The other players on the USA team need to look at what they’ve done by running don the court and hustling all the time and follow their lead.
Bring in New Faces
After this game its clear with only seven players this team can only last so long, after this game in Romania the JBA USA squad should be expanded bringing back injured players Nyang Wek, Jerrell Springer, Corey Boyd, and maybe players that have yet to be on the team like Brandon Willis and Nigel Chaney.
All in all a great bounce back win for JBA USA today against a strong passing team in Academic Sofia, they will look to bring a two game win streak back home with them in Romania next before the Thanksgiving break.
