chaney1

  1. Nigel Chaney

Team: Atlanta (5-1)

Reasoning: He played good against LA for 3 quarters, but his team was absolutely dismantled in the first quarter by 30 points that made the game a no contest the rest of the way. Atlanta still put up a fight mostly in the 4th quarter in which they finally caught fire and outscored Los Angeles. But you can NOT give up 42.5 points a quarter and expect to beat any team, Atlanta was supposed to have more pride and grit than that. Luckily for Chaney he has other great players that shoulder blame in this game. He still shot 8-18 from 3 but unfortunately for his team those were his only buckets. He needs to do a much better job of being able to take control and slow the game down in stretches, they do not want to get into a runout with LA. Chaney still has a slight grip on the MVP award as of now, but it is slipping, if you don’t know why go watch the full game and highlights of Lamelo Ball since his brother joined the team.

LaMelo-Ball-LA-Ballers

  1. Lamelo Ball

Team: Los Angeles (4-2)

Reasoning: Go look at his last two games, and while that isn’t the whole season he had gaudy looking stats from the outside if you didn’t watch each game. Which our panel knocked him for again and again along the way. That’s why he’s never been higher than #4 on our MVP rankings, but we must be realistic in the fact that he has been a baaaaaad man the last two games. One of which against the undefeated Atlanta Ballers. His stat lines the last two games (25-17-19) and (48-24-14) are just flat out ridiculous. If he has a 20-20-20 triple double at any point this season and wins their final two games in this fashion he may be able to steal the MVP award from Chaney even if ATL remains undefeated. But as of now he needs another slip up from ATL while continuing his down right great play. He can shoot a ton of long 3’s as he gets hot and the crowd starts asking for them but all in all his shot selection is improving.

  1. Je’Rell Springer

Team: Seattle (3-3)

Reasoning: He is one bad man, and our panel believes is the second-best player in the JBA behind Liangelo Ball. He will need to further prove that, or prove he is the best the rest of this season to win the award. Seattle can’t afford another loss if he wants to catapult up these rankings, also finding a way to finish with higher overall numbers. Possibly a 40-15-20 game, while playing their style would be the kind of performance that would give him some real momentum not just for this award but on his pro chances at well. Seattle has won 2 straight since the revamp of their roster and it is looking up for the Seattle Ballers.

Curtis Hollis

Team: Houston (3-3)

Reasoning: He jumps Calvin Brown on our list after winning his last game with a much-needed performance. Calvin Brown didn’t play up to his standards and Curtis Hollis has already shown a more developed all-around game. For those reasons he has earned the hype surrounding him, and we believe has a real chance to make a quantum leap up these rankings if he has a big performance and can pin a loss on this red-hot Los Angeles team next Thursday in Las Vegas. With the addition of Jordell Ross he can get some high assist totals if they can both get hot and find a rhythm together. With matchups agianst MVP candidates Je’Rell Springer and Lamelo Ball on the horizon he has a good chance to make or break his case in the final two games of the year.

  1. Calvin Brown

Team: New York (3-3)

Reasoning: He has real potential to get to the next level, but he needs to show a more developed game creating for others, putting the ball on the floor, and being able to score all the way out to the 3-pt line. But he is still shooting a great percentage for the JBA, the only player in the top 10 in scoring shooting above 55% from the field. I believe he has what it takes to jump up these rankings if they win their final 2 games and he can show-out in those games more than he already has. He needs to develop a highlight reel and put a few guys on a poster in these final games.

 ray

  1. Jordan Ray

Team: Atlanta (5-1)

Reasoning: He has been good for 19-24 Quarters this JBA season, however when he is bad during stretches he shoots his team in the foot. Against Los Angeles last night he was bad for 2 quarters and really cost his team a chance at even competing. He’ll need to do a better job of finding Corey Boyd and Nigel Chaney early in the game and finding his rhythm through the play of his teammates. His team can come and go with him, but that is because he is their point guard and captain, along with the biggest personality on the court and most likely off the court as well. He needs to weather the storm much better and can’t afford to go 0-7 to start out a game. These long full quarter stretches of not being able to find a way to contribute when his team and himself aren’t running on full cylinders is why he has dipped so far in these rankings.

  1. Caleal Walker

Team: Dallas (3-3)

Reasoning: He has been great of late for Dallas and is a huge part of their team all season long. He has been the most consistent player for a team that has turned their whole season around from having been at the bottom of the JBA Power Rankings. Now with the help of Nyang Wek Dallas is primed to make a serious playoff push and is a matchup no one wants right now maybe outside of Los Angeles. Look for him to continue to put up 25+ a game for this Dallas team as long as they continue to play their game and current style.

  1. Corey Boyd

Team: Atlanta (5-1)

Reasoning: He had his best game of year in what was a blowout loss, he needs to find a way to make bigger contributions in wins and not let his team face another loss like this the rest of the season. He needs to be the one to control the ball in the half court offense as well as Butler while they weather the storm incase Ray and Chaney haven’t heated up yet. They were smacked in the mouth and didn’t really respond outside of Corey Boyd who was hearing constant jeering and heckling from the crowd not that he seemed to notice or let it affect his game, to vault up these rankings though he’ll need to have performances like that in wins.

  1. Nyang Wek

Team: Dallas (3-3)

Reasoning: He has been the spark plug needed to turn this entire season around for the Dallas Ballers. After his last game against Chicago who has a solid big man Montrell Dixson, was enough to earn him a spot on this list and above Liangelo Ball at that in his limited time in the JBA. After keeping Dixson in foul trouble in rout to 31-point dominating performance, he is deserving of some MVP recognition if he can help lead Dallas to a 5-3 season after having started out looking like one of the worst teams in the JBA possibly.

 gelo ball

  1. Liangelo Ball

Team: Los Angeles (4-2)

Reasoning: LA Is undefeated since he put on a LA Ballers uniform, however they are stacked with talent and I probably could have or should have put Greg Floyd Jr. at ten his place but LA was struggling with what I believed was a stacked team before Gelo showed up. Liangelo also has an unreal stat line to begin the season even with an absurd amount of shots coming his way. If they continue to score 170 a game though I must be realistic and put him in the MVP rankings not that he has any shot to win the award, but at this point neither does Greg Floyd Jr. or Niles Malone.
